FORENSIC SEROLOGY

In the forensic laboratory, serology examination refers to the screening of evidence for body fluids while DNA analysis refers to the efforts to individualize body fluids to a specific person. The identification of biological fluids during forensic serological examination is accomplished through presumptive and confirmatory testing.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forensic Science Laboratory examines semen and blood of human origin on suspected articles and receives approximately twelve thousand cases each year where the expert’s opinion is timely dispatched to the concerned agencies.

Services at Forensic Serology Section:

Identification of:

  • Blood of human origin
  • Human Semen, in sexual assault cases
  • Preservation of samples

 

NARCOTICS                          

Groups of drugs/substances which are medically used for pain relieving but in large doses causes stupor, coma and blunt the senses and also causes habituation & addiction.

In context of international Drug Control, NARCOTICS DRUG means any drug/substance defined as such under the 1961 convention.

In another legal perspective any drug or contraband substances that are used in violation of CNSA Act 1997.

Chemical Section of FSL deals with all such cases come that under the CNSA act 1997. The drugs are identified and further confirmed with presumptive and confirmatory tests.

 

These cases are received from:

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police
  • Gilgit Baltistan Police
  • Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF)
  • Excise and Taxation
  • Pakistan Customs

Services at Narcotics Section

This section provides services to identify:

  • Heroin
  • Opium
  • Marijuana and Hashish (Charas)
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Controlled substances in body fluids i.e. blood and urine

 

FORENSIC VEHICLE EXAMINATION (FVE)

Motor vehicle seized by law enforcement agencies are commonly involved in snatching, stealing, or suspected in cases engine and chassis numbers may be tempered. Illegal activities carried out in these vehicles are come under the criminal acts where forensic vehicle examination is necessary to provide expert reports to assist law enforcement agencies.

In forensic science laboratory, vehicle examination is conducted by the experts who have vast experience. This section provides services to KPK, Gilgit Baltistan Police, Pakistan customs, Excise and Taxation Departments. So far about 1500 vehicles have been examined in 2017.

 

Services at Forensic Vehicle Examination

This section provides the following services:

  • Chemical Examination of erased/forged numbers on the metallic surface of suspected vehicles i.e. chassis and engine numbers of suspect vehicle.
  • Analysis of chassis sheet for the confirmation of cut/weld overlapping or vice versa.         
  • Report writing with expert’s opinion.
